Isle of Wight Steam Railway May Bank Holiday Beer Festival
5th - 7th May 2007
The Isle of Wight Steam Railway presents its second May Bank Holiday Beer Festival. Taking place at Havenstreet Station, the festival will be open on all three days of the holiday weekend from 11am to 9pm (5pm on Bank Holiday Monday).
Beer Festival Manager Derek Bishop is determined to build on the success of last year's very successful inaugural event. Well known as the 'Landlord' of our renowned August Bank Holiday Steam Show Real Ale Festival, Derek commented, "2006 was our first stab at running a Beer Festival as an independent event, although we do have many years experience gained from running the Summer Steam Show Real Ale Festival, serving well over 40 beers each August Bank Holiday. By a combination of judgement and sheer good luck my beer order proved to be absolutely spot-on with all 14 ales still available at the start of the final session but only three left by the end of it! As a result of the numerous positive comments received from satisfied customers last year I have identified a number of areas where we will be offering a much-improved service at the 2007 Festival. Improved stillaging will help us to serve an improved selection of ales in tip-top condition; I anticipate having up to 20 ales available this year. There will be souvenir beer glasses and hopefully some first class entertainment, the brass band and Morris Dancers both proving very popular last year. Special evening trains will enable festival goers to have an extended stay before heading for home by vintage steam train".
The May Bank Holiday 2007 Beer Festival will be featuring a selection of ales from local Isle of Wight breweries Goddards, Ventnor and Yates, as well as an interesting selection of micro brewery Real Ales drawn from across the Home Counties, including Westerham, Goachers, Hop Daemon, Surrey Hills and Gadds. There will be up to twenty ales to choose from and the experienced team of enthusiastic bar staff will spare no effort in ensuring that all are served in absolutely perfect condition!
Isle of Wight Steam Railway Blue Timetable will operate during the festival, with extra evening trains on all three days. Mainland visitors are reminded that the railway is only a short 30-minute ferry and train ride from Portsmouth Harbour Station.
