Description
The Isle of Wight Military History Museum is an all-weather attraction with plenty of free parking. It is situated on the A3020 Newport to Cowes Road and stands on a 15-acre site which was originally a WWII military barracks. The museum houses a good collection of WWII and post-war tanks and military vehicles, many of which are still operational. Also on display is a selection of weapons including machine guns, rifles and anti-aircraft guns.Throughout the summer months, you can enjoy the thrill of a Saracen armoured car or T54 tank ride at one of the Display Days (please note - you must be over 5ft tall to ride in the tank.) Guided tours are also available at the Military History Museum, where you will learn a great deal about the exhibits on show. There is also a workshop where you can view the museums current restoration program.
There is a well stocked gift shop at the Military History Museum which contains a good selection of gifts, toys & models, as well as souvenirs and postcards. If youre feeling hungry or thirsty, the new refreshment area is the perfect place to enjoy a hot or cold drink or snack and there is an outside seating are to take advantage of the many days when the sun is shining.
