Description
The Red Lion is a traditional English country pub with real fires and flagstone floors that serves exceptional quality food. It benefits from the personal supervision of the classically perfect team of Michael and his staff who care for their customers needs and are passionate about the food they serve. The establishment has won the prestigious award of Isle of Wight Dining Pub of the Year on three occasions and is the only Island pub to be included in the Michelin Dining Out in the UK 2007 Guide. We are renowned for the quality of our home cooking and our locally sourced meat, fish and vegetables. We have an extensive personally supervised herb garden ensuring that all of our ingredients are as fresh as they can possibly be. Puddings are prepared on the premises by our chefs, so indulge yourself a little. Remember that apple pie and custard is not a sin!You will find a good range of real ales including local brews, an extensive wine list and a large garden at The Red Lion. We are located alongside the All Saints Church in Freshwater, at the top of Hooke Hill and are easily reached on the river Yar walk from Yarmouth just over the causeway bridge. The bar is comfortably furnished with settles and chairs around scrubbed pine tables. You won't be deafened by pop music, as we don't play any and the log fires burn throughout the winter creating the perfect cosy atmosphere. The Red Lion is the ideal venue for a quick drink with a few friends or for that special meal with family, friends or business associates. Every dish on the menu will have been tried and tested on many occasions before we offer it to our customers. If it isn't right, we don't serve it.
Apart from the extensive blackboard menu, we offer a light lunch menu. On fine days and evenings, we are happy to serve any of the food we offer in the pub garden. In the summer of 2000, we added our Dome in the garden and it has been a hugely popular venue for private lunches and suppers. We can seat up to 25 people and our evening parties with music and candlelight have been particularly successful.
Our excellent wine list contains wines from some of the finest vineyards in Europe and the New World at realistic prices and as well as our real ales, the bar is stocked with a wide range of lagers, spirits and soft drinks to suit every taste. We are happy to discuss special menus and can arrange food to meet special dietary needs. At the end of your evening, we will be happy to order a taxi for you. They get a little bit busy, especially at closing time, so it helps if you can ask us to book it early in the evening.
