In 1867 Queen Victoria expressed a wish to visit the terraced garden of a house called Little Orchard. Great was the fuss and preparation, including arrangements for the Royal horses.
Spend your days taking in the breathtaking views and enjoying the scenic walks surrounding St. Lawrence and Ventnor.
Return to Little Orchard on summers evenings when we often suggest wine on the terraces to watch badgers and foxes come up to feed. Red squirrels can also be seen feeding in the trees.
Little Orchard is situated in the heart of The Undercliff, towards the southern most tip of The Island. The area is world famous for offering a small microclimate, protected from the north by towering cliffs and gently warmed from the south west, by the last of the Gulf Stream. Heavily wooded and packed full of wildlife, the area is spectacular for those wishing to walk and explore. The views from the top of coastal cliffs, or the cliffs which shelter the Undercliff.
People visiting Little Orchard will be able to enjoy the coastal walks which lead to Ventnor and Bonchurch or head further south to St Catherines Lighthouse. One thing is for sure, you won't fail to be impressed by the views and scenery. There is always a pub or tea rooms close by, with the end of the day being spent in the tranquil and most picturesque surroundings offered by Little Orchard.
