Description

Diane and Des Harvey welcome you to Newbarn Country Cottages for high quality self catering accommodation on the Isle of Wight at an affordable price. Newbarn Country Cottages are situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south of the small hamlet of Gatcombe in a secluded valley below the wooded slopes of the chalk downs, which form the backbone of the Island.

From this ideal location all parts of the Island are easily reached by car. Whether you love sandy beaches, spectacular scenery or the peace of a nature reserve, you can be there within 30 minutes. For those who enjoy walking, Carisbrooke Castle is less than 3 miles to the north along the Shepherds Trail and many other walks can be started here, some enjoying spectacular views over the Island and south coast of Dorset and Hampshire.

The Isle of Wight is a walkers paradise and with an extensive, well marked network it is also a mecca for cyclists and mountain bikers. Many other activities are catered for locally, including horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, golf and even ghost walks. More extreme sports such as para-gliding and water sports are also available. Although we enjoy a peaceful and tranquil location, the Island’s capital town of Newport is only 3 miles away with its various supermarkets and chain stores.

The neighbouring village of Rookley is only 2½ miles from Newbarn Country Cottages and has a post office and small supermarket which is open until late for those forgotten items. For those who enjoy eating out, there are a number of excellent pubs in the surrounding villages the nearest being about 2½ miles away and many more good restaurants and public houses within easy reach.

All three cottages are ground floor only with only a few steps, and with parking adjacent to each cottage are suitable for the elderly. Children of all ages are welcome. In the interests of hygiene and asthma sufferers, we do not allow pets in any of the cottages. We also have a no smoking policy within the cottages. To allow time for cleaning to the high standard we endeavour to maintain, we ask guests to vacate the cottage by 10.00am on day of departure, and not to arrive before 3.30pm. We consistently achieve the Enjoy England 4 star rating for all three cottages and offer the discerning visitor old fashioned hospitality in peaceful surroundings. We hope that should you decide to take your holiday with us, you too will love our cottages and the surrounding area.

Parlour Cottage
Parlour is the largest of the cottages for larger families (why not bring granny and grandpa?). It has three bedrooms, one with 3ft twin beds, one double with cot and children´s room with 3ft bunk beds. The large kitchen is a dream with pine units, large pine table and ample seating and colour TV. Fully equipped with oven, hob, microwave, washer/dryer, fridge and freezer. There is a separate comfortable lounge with colour TV, leading onto an enclosed patio. The main bathroom has a shower over the bath and there is a second shower room with W.C. and hand basin off the living area. Full oil fired central heating. Ample parking.

Stable Cottage
The Stable, originally horse stables and coach house, was the first cottage conversion, being completed in 1994. Completely on ground level, with only two steps and parking close to main entrance, it is suitable for the elderly, partially disabled or young families. Accommodation is in one double room with en-suite shower and one twin bedded room with adjoining bathroom. The large kitchen/living room leads onto an enclosed patio. The kitchen is fully equipped with extensive range of units, oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, etc. Heating by night storage heaters.

Dairy Cottage
Dairy is a charming cottage, ideal for a small family, two couples or that special anniversary. There are two bedrooms, one double with large en-suite shower room, the other with full sized twin beds and en-suite bathroom. The cosy living room/kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and, of course, colour TV. All the rooms open onto a very large enclosed patio with table and chairs. For those cooler days, full oil fired central heating is included.
