Becky Samuelson Fine Arts
Hi, my name is Becky Samuelson. I was born in Oxfordshire and spent my childhood moving around the world with my parents until I settled on the Isle of Wight with my husband in 1982. I have been painting professionally for twenty years, working full time as an artist, painting and sketching every day; teaching and also writing painting articles for The Leisure Painter Magazine. I am an Associate member of the Society of Women Artists and a member of the "Hilliard Society of Miniaturists."
Studio
My studio, Becky Samuelson Fine Arts, is in St Helens on the Isle of Wight where I specialise in marine, landscape and architectural paintings in watercolour, acrylic and pastel. Much of my inspiration comes from our amazing Isle of Wight countryside with its huge diversity and great natural light, providing me with constant inspiration. I particularly love the use of colour and the effect of light and seek out new and innovative ways of interpreting my subject. I very much welcome studio visits; please do feel able to contact me. For the past twenty five years I have sailed with my husband in firstly "X" One Designs and then in "Bembridge Redwings" which has added to my repertoire of subject matter and I am equally at home painting the various classes of sailing boats in the Solent and during Cowes Week, as I am with beach and landscape scenes. For those who want their boats painted, I have found it essential to have knowledge of rigging and design for accuracy.
Exhibitions
A major part of my working week is in the planning and painting of pictures for exhibitions and commissions. I exhibit regularly on and off the Isle of Wight, through major galleries and private and society exhibitions. These have included The Bembridge Gallery - IOW, The Alexander Gallery - Bristol, UK Fine Art - Ledbury and The Mall Galleries in London with the Society of Women Artists and the Art for Youth Exhibition. I spend as much time as possible sketching, with my preferred method as pen and wash, mainly for its immediacy and the impressionistic style that I can achieve.
Painting Classes
I have taught for the adult education service since 1994 and run both private classes and district [Bembridge] classes for the Isle of Wight College which has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. During the summer months for the past few years I have also run a summer painting course visiting various good painting spots on the Island. Great fun and great for confidence building! I have always felt it is important that my teaching is based on the fact that I am a practicing artist. I continually look for new ways to develop my art, challenging myself and developing ideas. I regularly demonstrate to local groups and with enough notice, am willing to travel further! If you are visiting the Isle of Wight on holiday and would like some watercolour lessons please contact me.
