Christmas on the Isle of Wight is a magical experience for all ages. It doesn´t matter if you´re young, or just young at heart, there is something for everyone here on the Island during the festive season, from singing traditional carols round a Christmas tree on a decorated town square, to relaxing in one of the many cosy pubs, in front of a roaring log fire. There are plenty of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses that stay open all year round, so finding somewhere to stay over Christmas is easy. Alternatively, if you prefer a more relaxed break where you can get up in the morning whenever you please, you will find there is ample self catering accommodation available. Many hotels on the Island offer Turkey & Tinsel Breaks over Christmas, which usually incorporate full or half board accommodation, including mince pies, Christmas Day lunch with all the trimmings and plenty of free entertainment including gifts from Santa Claus.

During the Christmas build up, you will find there are countless festive events happening all around the Island, including carol singing, lights of love church services and parades, carnivals and Victorian Christmas events, to name but a few. When Christmas morning arrives, why not enjoy a stroll along one of the Island´s many award-winning beaches before a pre-dinner drink in a welcoming Isle of Wight pub to get into the Christmas spirit. Many tourists chose to have a ´Wight Christmas´ in 2008, after the Island topped a list of UK holiday destinations for the festive season. A study of more than 14,000 bookings by Cooperative Travel, the UK´s largest independent travel retailer. revealed the Isle of Wight proved most popular. It came above London, Blackpool and the Scottish Highlands, as well as a host of other destinations for people holidaying during the festive break. The study revealed the UK´s share of Xmas holiday bookings was up six per cent from 2007 and 22 per cent from 2006.
