Chestnut Mews is situated in the beautiful, picturesque Old Village of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight and contains our three luxury self catering holiday cottages.
Honeysuckle, Jasmine & Clematis Cottages are positioned on the edge of Shanklin Old Village, adjacent to National Trust land, public parks, footpaths, and within easy walking distance to the local beaches. Our three bedroom cottages offer a high standard of spacious, fully equipped self catering accommodation, attracting guests back year after year.
Honeysuckle & Jasmine Cottages are both rated as 5 star self catering by Visit Britain. Clematis Cottage is located next to Honeysuckle, and whilst a new addition for 2012, it has the same layout as Honeysuckle and Jasmine Cottages and will be furnished and presented in the same high standard.”
Once on the Island the cottages are easily accessible from the main ferry routes via the unique and scenic Island roads. Depending on traffic this journey can take as little as half an hour. Please see the map / directions page on our website for more details.
Chestnut Mews is tucked away from the buzz of the Old Village and nestled within a delightful sylvan setting. The large sheltered and secluded gardens offer a peaceful haven in which to relax, and if you are quiet, you may see red squirrels, moorhens, rabbits, woodpeckers and other wildlife in the garden.Clematis cottage has its own private garden but still has a play house and little tikes play equipment.
Subject to availability, all of our guests also have complimentary use of the leisure facilities of a neighbouring third party establishment, which are within walking distance and include an indoor pool with Jacuzzi and small gym
The Cottages great location offer a tranquil and relaxing base with which to explore the alluring Isle of Wight, which depending on your preference can easily be done from the Cottages by foot, bicycle, car, or public transport. So while you are here, why not give the car a rest!
There are over 500 miles of well-kept footpaths and bridal ways on the Island, some great examples of which begin at the end of our driveway. From the cottages you can explore the local stunning coastal and country walks. You can also access via foot the traditional English seaside town of Shanklin, or you can head out via the Landslip / Undercliff and discover your own secluded bays, some of which were historically used by the Island’s notorious smugglers.
The Cliff Path and Appley Steps leading to the lovely sandy Appley Beach are approximately a ten minute stroll through Rylstone Gardens with its crazy golf, café and bandstand. Or alternatively, you can stroll along a tarmac path leading via the Old Village and park (easier for prams and the less agile) which also only takes about ten minutes to get to Hope Beach and the main esplanade in Shanklin.
A five minute walk will bring you to the heart of Shanklin Old Village with its variety of picturesque thatched cottages, tea rooms, gift shops, pubs, restaurants and the entrance to the historic Shanklin Chine. The nearest local newsagents and grocery shop, is also about a ten minute walk.
If required, you can arrange grocery deliveries to the cottages online with some of the major superstores such as Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose etc. who, if ordered in time, will deliver to the Shanklin Old Village area seven days a week. Alternatively, you can find the Lidl and Co-op supermarket chains available in Shanklin. Morrisons supermarket is located in the nearby town of Lake.
The many amenities of the busy seaside town of Shanklin are within easy walking distance. The bus route and the seasonal open top bus are also within a short walk (which goes from the Old Village to the Esplanade).
All accommodation is no-smoking and pets are not permitted. Children of all ages are welcome, all three cottages are fitted with stair gates, top and bottom, and have travel cots and highchairs. There is a ‘Little Tikes’ play area in the garden and wooden play house.
A warm welcome awaits you at Chestnut Mews and we very much hope you will consider us to be your home away from home.
