Description
The Fighting Cocks is a popular Isle of Wight pub and eating establishment located in the village of Arreton, which is on the main Newport to Sandown road. This excellent, award-winning pub is renowned for its superb home-cooked pub food as well as its fine selection of wines and real ales, including beers brewed on the Island. If you want a quick lunchtime bite, a romantic meal for two or a special party celebration, The Fighting Cocks is well worth a visit.
The Fighting Cocks was originally built as a farm cottage over 300 years ago and became an ´ale house´ for the local community with the old "sport" of cock fighting taking place in the adjacent barn, The original building was rebuilt and extended in 1969 after being almost totally destroyed by a fire. The old atmosphere is now combined with a comfortable, relaxing bar and restaurant.
Food is available at The Fighting Cocks from 12pm - 2.30pm and 5pm - 9.30pm Mondays to Fridays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. Included on the extensive menu are sandwiches & baguettes, jacket potatoes, ploughman´s lunches, pasta dishes, steaks, burgers, seafood and salads, to name just a few. There is also a good selection of starters and desserts, as well as a "Little Chicks" menu for the under 12s. It is advisable to book a table in advance, as the pub gets very busy, especially at the weekends. Credit cards are accepted, there are ample car parking spaces and high chairs and baby changing facilities are on offer for the use of customers. There is also a small separate function room for hire, which can accommodate up to 25 people. Disabled access is available throughout the pub.
