A survey map shows that in 1774 there were farm buildings and a dwelling house, known as Lower Ash farm, on the site of the present building. This was constructed in 1868 as a home for the Rev. Oliver and his growing family, and was lived in by subsequent vicars until 1947. The house was then purchased by the Youth Hostels Association, who ran it very successfully until 1992, when it was sold into private ownership.
The house has now been completely restored by the present owners, Robin and Shirley Thornton, who purchased the property in 1999
