Dog Restricted Beaches on the Isle of Wight
Between May 1st and September 30th each year, there are a number of dog restricted beaches on the Isle of Wight. Dogs are banned from a number of Island beaches that are owned by the Isle of Wight Council where a byelaw is in place prohibiting people (other than a registered blind person) from allowing their dog(s) to enter or remain on the beaches and any slope or staircase leading on to the beach.
Any person allowing their dog to be on a designated beach may be liable to a fine of up to £500. There are other dog restricted beaches on the Isle of Wight that are not under the control of the Isle of Wight Council where dogs are also prohibited. You are advised to check signs before entering a beach. Notices are clearly displayed at each of these beaches indicating that they are restricted areas for dogs.
Dog owners on these beaches at other times of the year outside of the restricted season are still required to pick up after their dog at all times. The same applies to non-restricted beaches all year round. Failure of dog owners to pick up after their dogs may result in either a fixed penalty notice for £50 or a fine of up to £1000 if the offence is dealt with in the Magistrates Court.
Listed below are the dog restricted beaches on the Isle of Wight. (Please check signs for exact areas of beaches where dogs are prohibited).
